In brief
Dapagliflozin is the active ingredient of Forxiga, which its Australian leaflet describes for adults with type 2 diabetes, heart failure or kidney disease. The leaflet describes a film-coated 10 mg tablet.
Blood sugar, heart failure admissions and kidney decline: the Forxiga uses
Three adult uses appear in the Forxiga consumer medicine information: lowering blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, cutting the number of hospital stays caused by heart failure, and slowing the worsening of kidney disease.
This listing shows dapagliflozin 5 mg and 10 mg. It does not name the manufacturer of the product supplied, so check the label on the pack you receive and confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist that it matches your prescription.
Dapagliflozin 10 mg priced across 30, 60 and 120 units
Compare packs of the same strength. These examples are for 10 mg and are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 9 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
| Strength | Pack size | Pack price | Price per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mg | 30 | A$51.72 | A$1.72 |
| 10 mg | 60 | A$77.58 | A$1.29 |
| 10 mg | 120 | A$120.69 | A$1.01 |
Set against the 30 pack, one 10 mg unit works out about 25.0% cheaper when bought as 60 and about 41.7% cheaper when bought as 120.
A lower price per unit means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.
AstraZeneca’s 10 mg Forxiga and the overseas Farxiga label
AstraZeneca Pty Ltd sponsors Forxiga in Australia, and its leaflet, revised in May 2026, covers a film-coated 10 mg tablet; a 5 mg form is not described there. In other markets the same medicine, dapagliflozin, is sold under the name Farxiga. These brand details belong to Forxiga and are not a statement about the product supplied here.
Lactose or dapagliflozin allergy and the type 1 diabetes restriction
The leaflet says Forxiga is not taken by anyone allergic to dapagliflozin or to any tablet ingredient, lactose included. It is also not meant for people with type 1 diabetes.
Ketoacidosis while fasting or unwell, and pausing before surgery
The leaflet warns of diabetic ketoacidosis, noting a higher risk during fasting or illness. Before an operation, the tablets are stopped only as agreed with the doctor. Dehydration is another concern raised in the leaflet.
Fournier’s gangrene and other infections linked to dapagliflozin
Infections of the genitals and of the urinary tract are flagged in the leaflet. It also mentions a rare necrotising infection of the area between the genitals and the anus, known as Fournier’s gangrene.
Back pain, low blood sugar and lithium: reactions and one interaction
Genital irritation, backache and headache are the frequent effects named for Forxiga. More serious problems listed are allergic reactions, hypoglycaemia when it is combined with other diabetes medicines, severe dehydration, infections and ketoacidosis. On interactions, the leaflet notes that dapagliflozin can lower lithium levels.
Keeping dapagliflozin in its blister, away from damp and heat
According to the leaflet, Forxiga tablets are kept in their blister at below 30 °C, clear of moisture and heat. Follow the storage directions on the pack you receive.
