In brief
CellCept contains mycophenolate mofetil, an immunosuppressant. It dampens the immune response so that the body is less likely to reject a transplanted organ.
CellCept for preventing organ transplant rejection
CellCept is an immunosuppressant used after an organ transplant. It lowers the activity of the immune system to help prevent the transplanted organ from being rejected, as set out in the CellCept consumer medicine information.
This listing shows mycophenolate mofetil 500 mg. It does not name the manufacturer of the product supplied, so check the label on the pack you receive and confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist that it matches your prescription.
Mycophenolate mofetil 500 mg: 10 versus 20 units
Compare packs of the same strength. These examples are for 500 mg and are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 9 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
| Strength | Pack size | Pack price | Price per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 mg | 10 | A$120.69 | A$12.07 |
| 500 mg | 20 | A$201.16 | A$10.06 |
Choosing 20 units instead of 10 lowers what each one costs by about 16.7%.
A lower price per unit means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.
CellCept capsules, tablets, oral suspension and intravenous vials
The Australian CellCept range comes as 250 mg capsules, 500 mg tablets, a 200 mg/mL suspension taken by mouth and 500 mg vials for intravenous administration. These are the Australian CellCept brand presentations.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and mycophenolic acid allergy
CellCept is not to be used during pregnancy, because it can cause miscarriage and birth defects, or while breastfeeding. It is also unsuitable for women of childbearing potential who are not using two reliable methods of contraception at once. An allergy to mycophenolate mofetil or mycophenolic acid is another reason not to take it.
CellCept, sun protection, live vaccines and blood monitoring
CellCept carries an increased risk of infections. The chance of skin cancer also rises, so the leaflet advises covering up with protective clothing and using sunscreen, and any broader cancer risk is a matter to talk through with the doctor. Avoid live vaccines; regular blood testing is also required during CellCept treatment. Because CellCept interacts with many medicines, every doctor involved should know about it before anything new is started.
Swallowing CellCept whole and the reactions reported with it
The leaflet says to swallow capsules or tablets whole, without chewing or opening them, and to take them twice a day roughly 12 hours apart, as prescribed. Diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting are among the common effects, along with headache, acne and infections of the urinary tract. Get medical help promptly for signs of infection, bleeding or bruising with no clear cause, anaemia, swollen lymph nodes or an allergic reaction.
